Romans 11:16 – “Through Him”

“For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.”

The Bible references having our focus stayed on Jesus and continuing to renew our mind on the things of, and the will of, God frequently throughout Scripture.  This is because there are so many distractions in front of, behind, and to each side of us.  It is all too easy to become enamored, distracted, and drawn away from God, who is the very source of our enablement in all things.

This is one of the many reminders that Jesus Christ is the source the things that enable us to be healthy Christians and positive contributors to society.  Continue reading “This Day in Romans: 11 July 2016”

Me and My House (Joshua 24:15)

Sitting in my chair (justa rick arockin’).
Clock high on the wall (justa tick atockin’).
I’m waitin’ for linemen on the tv to start ablockin’,
I see the birds out the window ready to start aflockin’.

My heart tick tocks to a different rhythm,
to the waves of the invisible part of the schism;
divided solely by what we see and what we believe,
an argument between the collapsing atom and the created Adam (and Eve).

But there’s no debate, and that I wear boldly on my sleeve.
There are only concoctions of the air aimed to deceive,
spreading fallacies that we need not believe and receive,
but instead in our own might we need to work and retrieve… Continue reading “Me and My House (Joshua 24:15)”

This Day in Proverbs: 24 May 2016

Proverbs 24:10

“If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.”

Adversity will come. It is an inevitable part of life.  Here we are told that if we faint when it comes, that our strength is small.

For the record, our strength is always small compared to God’s strength.  If we faint during a trial or circumstance, it is because we chose to lean on our strength and not God’s.  In our weakness He makes us strong, but in our strength we are exposed to be weak.

Lean on Him and watch Him lift you through the very situations that are designed to hold you down.

Proverbs 23:23

“Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding.”

This morning my mind is on investments; what things are we investing in on a daily basis?  This goes beyond tangible, monetary purchases.  What investments are we making for the betterment of our spirits?

The currency of these types of investments center largely sound time and attention.  As we face certain things, or even if we have a few spare moments, what are we doing to get closer to God?  Are we seeking His wisdom?  Are we engaging in Godly counsel?  Are we being a help you our neighbors?

All of these things, or whatever we choose to do, symbolizes what we value must because our time and energy go to those things.  Keep your eyes on Him and ensure to remember that He will felt give wisdom, knowledge, and instruction to those who seek it of Him.

Have a blessed week.

Proverbs 21:23

“Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles.”

Here is one of our many friendly reminders throughout Scripture that we have to be mindful of what we say.  Whatever we allow to come out of our lips is a reflection of what is in our heart.  We should continually ask ourselves if our words clearly reflect the Holy Spirit dwelling within us or if they act as a smudged mirror, making it difficult to discern if they Holy Spirit dwells with us or not. Proverbs 19:2

“Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.”

I debated about writing on this verse or verse 24, as they both apply to my current situations in similar ways.  I chose this one because its subject hinders me so much at times.  Confession time.

So, desires… the wants, the yearnings, the longings of a person’s heart… should not be our primary focus.  Knowledge should be.  Hypocritical of me to say, I know (it’s all a process, here is one my toughest subjects).

Proverbs 18:21

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit thereof [for death or life].”

How mighty are our words? How much weight do they hold and how much influence do they have? Monumental.

Think of how those things that we ask within His will are given, and how we are to declare things that are not as though they were.  The ship is controlled by the steering wheel, the horse by the bit in its mouth, and so too are our lives shaped in the same manner as our words.

Proverbs 17:3

“The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the Lord tests hearts.”

What is our motivation? Why do we do the things that we do? We see each other act on a continual basis, but the majority of the time, if not all, we do not know why someone else does what they do. We are not heart readers. But, God is.

It is imperative that we do our deeds for the proper reasons and not simply for outward appearance alone. What profit is it to someone’s spirit if they give because of force? What good is it to put on a show?

The earth is not our final destination and the things we do here outline the things that happen later. We should always make a conscious attempt to check our hearts before we act, as opposed to checking a box saying that we acted.

May we continue to look to His counsel and example of how to live.
