“But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation,” 1 Thessalonians 5:8.
…And as a helmet the hope of salvation.
In our language we treat the words hope and wish as synonyms. Hope is constantly defined as a feeling, a longing for, or a dream. But hope is much stronger than a simple wish or desire for something.
Looking at the verse it describes our spiritual helmet as the hope of salvation. We are to guard our minds not with the wish for our salvation but with the confidence in our salvation. God Himself has assured us of our salvation through our belief in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
So as we use this word in the future lets remind ourselves of how strong it actually it. Hope is more than a wish, it is something that is guaranteed; something that is already paid for; something that is divinely assured.
