This Day in Romans: 12 July 2016

Romans 12:18-19

“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. / Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”

One of the major goals that we should have is to live in peace.  Our human nature allows for us to have a resounding choice in how we choose to live.  We are the ones who choose what is important to us.  Here we are told that as long as it is possible, we should have peace be at the top of the list.

This verse is immediately followed by a verse explaining that we should not avenge ourselves.  When people do us wrong we should not attempt to even the score.  Why?  Because that does not equate to the peace that Jesus has given us.  We should take solace in knowing that He will ensure that we will be victorious as long as our eyes are stayed on Him.

He has given us His peace and not that which the world considers peace; money, notoriety, things, position, power, and the list goes on.  Jesus has provided a way that we can have peace within our being, understanding that though we fall short of God’s glory, He still turns a blind eye to our sin and focuses on the blood that covers us.

Surely His love knows no limits and His grace knows no bounds.  Continue to let His peace resonate from inside you to those around you.  May you always be in God’s favor.
